Assaults shoes where first tactical footwear designed for waterborne operations based on the skate shoe. Of course, beefed up with top notch materials and technologies. It may look like "casual chucks" in diffe- rent colors, but it's not. DESIGN The Altama OTB Maritime Assaults are available in two heights, Mid and Low. We have requested Mid ones as they provide more stability for the feet and have more potential. And they look better. You can really feel Converse All-Star DNA in it, but with tacti- cool touch. The uppers are constructed from rugged and durable Cordura 1000D nylon fabric without any additional reinforcement, just few sewing lines. The fabric is not waterproof coated (absolutely no reason, this is wa- ter boot). In the front part, where the sole connects with the upper, in the flex spots, there are two small notches below, covered with dense mesh. These are the drainage holes. On the rear part, near the Achilles notch there is a webbing pull loop. Shape of shoes was chosen specifically to fit different types of com- bat fins. From the inside the upper is lined with Air Mesh for more breathability and quick draining. There is also heel cup providing more support to the rear part of foot. The same air mesh was used in lightly padded gusseted tongue. It prevents against dirt or sand get- ting inside the boot. Shoes have seven pairs of non-magnetic eyelets and flat slightly elastic laces. The difference between Mid and Lows is the location of top eyelet. On the front there large rubber cup providing protection for fin- gers. Bottom of the shoe is built from three layers. The out- sole is made from SEAL Rubber mix as used in the approach boots providing flexibility and very good traction. It has this sticky feel at the first time. The lo- w-profile thread is somehow like the Panama thre- ad from the old school Jungle Boots but is definitely www.fragoutmag.com
