NFM GROUP This was the most surprising and exciting product we saw at MILIPOL 20219. The NFM Group of Norway unveiled their own HJELM ballistic combat helmet system. At first glance it might resemble the popular Ops-Core FAST High Cut Ballistic Helmet with high un- dercut in ear area which was selected as a most opti- mal helmet shell shape for best ratio between weight and protection area. The shape of HJELM is not a co- incidence or just a blatant copy of the legacy Ops-Core design. The HJELM was designed by FAST creator, Da- vid Rogers of Final Forge, former President of Artisent and VP Concept Development in Ops-Core, before he sold his assets to Gentex in 2014. The concept behind the HJLEM was the maximum mobility and scalability and lowest possible weight. First step was shaving off all the external accessories such as full-size side rails. These were replaced with Edgemount Attachement System which provides flexi- bility. User will only attach the mission equipment. On the front of the shell there is a lightweight aluminum night vision shroud. The HJELM internals consist of amazing suspension system based on Koroyd's weld- ed nano-tubes which are absorbing impact forces in a controllable manner. This Skullplate system is based on the solutions found in ski and skiboard helmets were impact hazards are significant threat. Tubes also improve the air flow and ventilation. These are also paired with adjustable comfort pads. The 4-point harness has unique design with release buckles located in the rear part, near the adjustment dial. Yes, there are no side buckles in chin area. This design should improve donning and doffing with NBC gear. Of course, there will be also a standard chinstrap available. The last part of HJELM is Helmet Attachment System Pattern), the hexagon shaped laminate "fishnet" which replaces the Velcro loop attached to the shell with a structural web of high-strength composites that pro- vide a stronger and more reliable system throughout the shell exterior. Devices can now be mechanically attached without fear of the connection failing. The HASP is also removable so that it is easily replaced even in the field if it does become damaged. NFM Group did not unveil a complete weight of helmet nor its ballistic protection level, but weight is around 800-850 grams. www.fragoutmag.com
