Tupolev Tu-22M "Backfire". Strategic swing-wing supersonic bomber. The name, derived from Tu-22, was to confuse the western experts. It was an entirely new design, while the name change allowed the Soviets to diminish the actual value that Backfire had during the SALT-II treaty negotiation. One of the early MiG-29 jets, noteworthy its nose gear is protruded forwards quite significantly. Later on, it was moved backwards, in between the engine nacelles. What's interesting, Mikoyan did not resign from FOD flaps in the intakes. When those are closed the jet uses the intakes located on top part of the LERX. August 6th, 1969 the Mi-12, NATO Code Homer, took 44,205 2,225 meters - this is a world record for helicopter payload. MUSEUM
