without additional tools). All these features were implemented in the 2008 model but in the design pro- cess, some of them were comple- tely reshaped and reworked. INTERNALS From the beginning, the MSBS rifle was designed as a gas-opera- ted short-stroke piston driven rifle but the internals are quite different in the final GROT. The gas regulator has a similar shape but is bigger and must be ¾ rotated before re- leasing (only ¼ in the final MSBS). The piston was initially larger and had an integrated push rod. In the final GROT, the piston is smaller and separated from the push rod. There is also a piston spring ad- ded. The short stroke piston in the 2008 model was an effect of bolt carrier design like the SCAR rifle (except two cam pins on the both sides of the carrier). Yes, at this stage there were some common between MSBS and SCAR. The bolt carrier group was inspired with the SCAR one, with the carrier exten- ded in the upper part for operation with short stroke piston. In the front part of the carrier there was also a hole for charging handle attachment. Originally, the 2008 MSBS had reciprocating charging handle which could be quickly re- located from the left side of the rifle to the right. It was done by charging the rifle and blocking the handle in the notch.
