BEFORE AFTER SUMMARY Our main conclusion? Keep your gun clean. Of course, one of the rifles had more shots fired which was the direct reason for increased wear on the parts, but lack of cleaning has its impact too. Other gun was cleaned more often (once per every 2-3 mon- ths) and its condition was far better. It is worth it to pay some attention to the gun and spend some time on cleaning. Detach the handguard and clean the piston rod and the barrel as the carbon will build up there too. That is the main reason why the MS gun was in better condition than the ML ones. We plead guilty to forgetting about the gun inspections. Once per year you sho- uld ask the gunsmith for inspection and thorough cleaning which will remove the dirt and other things we won't be able to clean ourselves. After complete cleaning and lubrication, the gun will perform bet- ter. The inspection will also allow to find the parts requiring replacements (sprin- gs, rings, bushings, etc.). This will pre- vent potential failures too. More advan- ced shooters will be able to do the check- -up on their own, the other should invest a few bucks for a gunsmith's inspection. Pay attention, the gun is just a tool which is worn during the use, same as a car or bike. There are some parts that need to be replaced during the use. It is not a device which will last lifelong without any care. The more you shoot, the parts will wear quicker. Read the ma- nual. Check the manufacturers informa- tion on the life-span of the components and parts. Sure, if there is a note that the part X should be replaced after 8,000 ro- unds, it does not mean it will break after 8,017 rounds fired. Most probably it will work for at least twice more than men- tioned but if something will break, then you can only blame yourself. You need to care about your gun and it will last longer. This will also help to avo- id any critical failure. It will be safer too and you are going to have more fun. FIREARMS
