My first encounter with Aimpoint ACRO was during SHOT Show 2019. And indeed, it was something groundbreaking. There were literally tons of quality but also loads of cheap "open" reflex sights already in the market, some from reputable manufactures and some from the same Asian factory with a new brand slapped on it. But the ACRO's were definitely something new. I have been using CompM4 and Micro T-1 in the past, and ultimately the ACRO P-1 joined them. BTW, if the T-1/T-2 is "Micro", then ACRO is perfect "nano" sights. The aluminium housing is rugged and durable, over the time the black anodization will wear down on the especially on the edges but it gives worn look. The industrial design gives the ACRO some fu- turistic vibes. The Aimpoint sights are top notch both in built and in performance. Of course, they are expensive but pay one, cry once. During the use, some slight scratches appeared on the front lens but they didn't affect the functionality. ACRO's are bombproof and built like a tank. They will survive accidental banging, drops on con- crete and racking against your gear. Nothing happened to it during the testing with 800-900 cheap 9 mil FMJs. Well, I would be sur- prised if anything would happen – it was shock tested with 20,000 powerful .40 S&W rounds. The standard Aimpoint mounting plate for Glock MOS allows the stable and solid attachment. Compared to Trijicon RMR, I would say the most popular and wide-spread MRDS, the ACRO field of view is bigger. The red dot is sharp and crisp during the day (5-6th day setting). I did not expe- rience the vanishing dot phenomena. Due to its boxy shape and dimensions, I would not recommend the sight for CCW. It will work perfectly on a duty-size gun in an OWB or thigh holster. Hey, it is even in the name "Advanced Com- bat…" not "CCW sight". It would be overkill to place it on a G43 sized gun. The one disadvantage of P-1/C-1 I can see is the CR1225 3V lithium battery. It is not as common as CR2032 and will not work with any other of your devices (that's why in P-2 they went with the more popular and widely available CR2032 cells). The actual runtime of the battery will depend on the environmental conditions and use scenarios (if you are shooting mostly outdoors in daytime, the battery will die faster) but the replacement is quick and easy. What I disliked is the red dot adjustment – sure, the sight comes with proprietary tools (or you can use Torx screwdriver instead) but the turret caps as in the T-1 could be easier to operate. Luckily, you don't have to zero the ACRO P-1 often because it holds zero pretty well. So the P-1 was my first enclosed style dot and it definitely chan- ged my mind about the MRDS. It has some slight limitations but in overall it has more advantages over the open dots and has less possible points of failure. SHASH: www.fragoutmag.com
