Flat Dark Earth and Black, in right- and left-handed shooters config- urations. Standard holsters are meant for pistols without flash- lights attached. P320-M17 & P320-M18 After the US Military contract, the commercial market quick- ly responded with demand for handgun identical to gov issued one. To answer it, SIG Sauer in- troduced commercial variants of M17 as P320-M17 in 2018 and M18 as P320-M18 in 2020. These are essentially P320 PVD coated in Coyote color but with the external safety levers on grip (they might be removed). Since the RX optics cut- out are matching the MHS ones, they are compatible only with Le- upold DPP red dot footprint. LIMITED EDITIONS For the gun collectors, SIG Sauer released a Commemorative limited edition with Coyote colored safety switches as originally submitted for the MHS program. There were 5,000 M17 and 5,000 M18 clones in such variants. Most interesting M17 versions are four M17 Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Pistols. They were made specially for soldiers of "The Old Guards", US Army 3rd Infantry Reg- iment responsible for the honor guard of Tomb of Unknown Soldier on National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. These four pistols (named "Silence", "Respect", "Dignity" and "Perseverance") feature the stain- less-steel slides, aircraft grade alu- minum grip modules (slick, without 1913 rail) and wooden grip scales made of planks from USS Olympia ( US Navy vessels that carried re- mains of first unknown soldier in 1921) with unit emblem, glass vial of Tomb marble dust in the rear sight (instead of tritium vial) and three Greek figures, Peace, Victo- ry, and Valor (from eastern side of Tomb) on the optics cut-out cover. On the frame there are Roman XXI numbers engraved too (21-gun salvo). CIVILIAN M18 - BY LOTOS I was a Marine freak since I re- member and for a couple of years I am into shooting. "Tactical" shooting, so in full gear, etc. To match USMC gear, a USMC pistol would be a great addition, wouldn't it? It was always a problem as I never felt love for the Beretta M9 and venerable Colt M1911A1 was too old school for me. When the commercial variants of M17 and M18 finally became available, I just knew that I had to own it. Now, for a couple of months, I am a happy owner of my "18" (the SIG Sauer P320-M18 to be exact). Why M18 you may ask? It was chosen by the Navy and Marine Corps, and I prefer its compact di- mensions. IMHO the M18 has great www.fragoutmag.com
