Day 2 beginning of competition It was close to 07:00 AM, 4th of June when fresh, well rested and ready to fight competitors from Featherlight and Lighter Infantry started to come to the shooting range (we organized a parking lot 1500 meters from the range). When these guys were looking at cold, tired and dispirited competitors from Lekka I remembered that scene from the "Pacific" series where John Basilone element was chan- ging Robert Leckie platoon at Guadalcanal. That exchange of looks was very meaningful. At 07:00 hours, the required and most important gear was checked, we gave them maps and for Featherlight and Lighter com- petitors we gave them "mortars", the hexagon-shaped con- crete blocks that they needed to carry to designated po- ints to pick it up later and carry it back. At the gear check, some people were cheating so much that we started to have a headache. Of course, penalties were given around, where most of them were for lack of whistle in mandatory equipment. Why the whistle, you may ask? It's helpful as a location device for a medical team when somebody will be stuck in the middle of the forest with a broken leg (actual event from 2020 edition), then whistle might be helpful to have other than your own voice. I don't have to mention the ability to signalize anything dangerous that might hap- pen at the shooting range. Competition began after gear check and each team moved into their own direction looking closely at the map and planning route. Those who had a shooting window at 09:00 obviously move for the closest ones so they move quickly at the shooting range, dropping off the "mortar" at first. Gear had been moved, spinning everything up, some people came for good fun and some people came to have some fun and win. It's very satisfactory to watch people compete this way. REPORT
