invisible from the outside, is a twist ratio. The military barrel is 1:7 twist and the commercial is 1:9. The re- ason is that military specs were set for heavier rounds and civilians are more universal. HANDGUARDS The handguards are more complex. In the A2 and civilian version with "long handguard" they are almost identical. In case of military A1 and in both ear- ly and late S16 they are similar but different. First noticeable difference is the attachment system. The S16 has the M-LOK slots and the C16 came with slots similar to M-LOK but not made to the exact specs (let's call it FB-LOK) and it was accepting only the proprietary accessories (FB-made short MIL-STD-1913 rails, both stan- dard one with QD sling attachment). These were attached the same way as the M-LOK accessories but the screw spacing was slightly different. Also the standard T-nuts were repla- ced with a single steel plate. Other than the attachment system, the only difference was a sling QD mount pla- cement. In the military handguard the QD mount was in the front part of the lower offset and in the civilian one it was on the rear, on the side. The deta- ils of the handguards were explained in the previous article about MSBS/ GROT gas regulator. UPPER RECEIVERS Differences are slight although not obvious. Basically, the changes within the upper receiver come down to differences in the bolt carrier gro- up guides (left and right). The first is the width of the guide at its base - in the C16 it is slightly wider (by about 2 mm), but this does not affect the functioning of the weapon and I think it is due to the desire to increase the rigidity of the upper receiver. The se- cond difference are the additional protrusions in the civilian S16, which were made just at the base of the sli- de, about 1/3 of its length, starting from the breach. These protrusions are meant to prevent the military-gra- GROT A2 pistol grip A2 QD socket A2 front grip A2 bayonet assembly A2 FIREARMS
