We're in the Lublin region, it's late spring. The enemy is a Territorial Defense Forces (TDF) company guarding a town, and we – the SZKPl [Szkoła Partyzantów] attached to a Reconnaissance Platoon of the 10th Mechanized Brigade – are a group of saboteurs who have infiltrated from "somewhere" to scout potential targets among critical infrastructure. We're playing OPFOR on enemy territory. Just the way we like it. Phase one: We drive across open fields. After several hours with the map, all four of us have the area figured out. We know where we're headed, where the enemy is, where our main team is moving, and where our scouts will be active. It's warm and cloudless – good weather for flying. We've got a recon drone capable of dropping payloads. But we don't have thermal cameras, so we can only support operations until dusk. The day before, we tested the range – with a good launching position, we can get nearly 8 kilometers. Not bad without an external active antenna – probably thanks to the new controller we're using for the first time. We set off from our hideout – an empty volunteer fire station – along with others. Each team heads in a different direction, each with a different task, but all working toward the same goal: complete the mission safely and make it back home. This time of year, the fields are empty, open, waiting for winter. You can spot us from several kilometers away. We're not too thrilled about that. We're approaching the edge of the forest. Nothing passed us on the way, it's quiet and calm, early morning. The forest is cut through by a deep ravine that serves as a natural border between the military-patrolled area and "our" zone, with our safe house at its www.fragoutmag.com
