Every two years, just outside Bordeaux,
France, far removed from the sprawling
exhibition halls of Eurosatory in Paris, a
unique event unfolds. It's called SOFINS
(Special Operations Forces Innovation
Network Seminar), and it's not your ty-
pical defense industry exposition or tra-
de show. This seminar is hosted within
the grounds of Camp de Souge, the
home of the 13th Parachute Dragoon
Regiment (13e Régiment de Dragons
Parachutistes, 13e RDP), a special ope-
rations unit of the French Armed Forces
whose primary mission is reconnaissan-
ce.
SOFINS serves as a venue where special
operations forces from across the globe
converge to observe and test cutting-ed-
ge equipment, as well as to discuss the
future of special operations and special
forces – both in Europe and worldwide.
SOFINS remains a relatively low-profile
event, often overshadowed by SOF Week
(formerly SOFIC) held in Tampa, Florida
under the auspices of US SOCOM.
