The rifle includes several modifications to pro- vide easier adaptability to the requirements of the modern combat field, e.g. a foldable butt stock (significantly decreasing the length of the carried weapon), or the system of changeable barrels with calibers of .338 Lapua Magnum and .308 Win I had the opportunity to play with MRAD together with the FRAG OUT! Team. The first think I noticed was a standard-sized transport case like, for example, for Sako TRG. But wait. How? It was supposed to be "shorter". After opening the case, everything was clarified – apart from the rifle, there were two flutted barrels (.338LM and .308WIN), a changeable bolt head (for .308WIN), two magazines for respective calib- ers and an Atlas bipod. Barrett MRAD is a design built in a way similar to AR rifles (upper and lower receiver), with ergonom- ics also similar to AR in terms of placing the safety lever, the changeable pistol grip. What is more, the way of releasing the magazine is rather similar to the Russian AK (OK, also to G36) – the wing is be- fore the trigger guard like in e.g. Sako TRG22/42. The tested version of the rifle was covered with a Cerakote coating in Tungsten Grey but there are also other colors available. The upper and lower receiver are connected with one locking pin and a clip, which, when released, allows tilting of the upper part to e.g. take out the bolt. After remov- ing the front pin, we may disassemble the rifle into two parts (it also allows shortening the weapon even more and packing it to a really small con- tainers/pouches).
