Almost everyone has had, consciously or not, a contact with windproof and waterproof prop- erties, and what is the most important, they wick moisture far away from the skin. We have be- come accustomed that an outerwear and foot- wear with GORE-TEX® perfectly work in the mod- erate temperature and high humidity conditions that at Central European latitude, according to a calendar, starts about October and ends in April. Most of our readers, certainly, are interested in the solu- tions that work in one of the most extreme environments in which you can found, that is soldiers duties at every ge- ographical latitude and longitude. The challenges which are met by the soldiers during their missions conducted in the different parts of the world require a reliable, dura- ble and functional footwear. A low or high temperature, sand, water, mud and dust occur on an everyday basis during a military duty and it begins from the dependable and comfortable footwear. However, a real challenge for the manufacturers is developing a footwear with a high extend of comprehensiveness. FRAG OUT! Team have begun a long-term project in a cooperation with W.L. Gore & Associates which is aimed at testing GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort Footwear tech- nology, introduced into the military footwear in 2013, and since 2009 widely used in the trekking and outdoor boots of many renowned companies. To our hands, or rather to our feet, when describing it in a more detailed way, have been handed over three types of footwear, made by three different manufactures, which have three different speci- fications of intended use and one common feature that make them predestined to be used also in the dry and hot environment of the desert areas. Their common element is GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort membrane in two ver- sions which differ with a way of fitting it inside the boot – one of the variants constitutes a classical laminate com- bined with a lining, i.e. lined and the second is an single layer unlined one.
