(according to standard requirements it must withstand 500,000 flex movements until it starts allowing water to penetrate into the boot from the outside) laminate is supposed to translate into a new level of managing a cli- mate. It is just a structure of GORE-TEX® membrane that due to its design does not allow water to penetrate from the outside simultaneously wicking sweat from their in- ner part. It is possible thanks a gigantic, counted in hun- dred thousands, concentration of micropores per square centimeter, which are almost 20 thousands smaller than a water drop and at the same time a few hundred times larger than molecules of water vapor what allows the membrane for withstanding water from the outside and transport moisture gathered when feet sweat to the out- side of the boot. The "breathing" process results in a thermal comfort felt as a constant temperature and humidity level and dura- ble waterproofness of these footwear even in the most extreme conditions. GORE-TEX® Exended Comfort technology is a solution in which the membrane can be deprived of one lining layer (insulation) what translates into a higher lower Resistance to Evapotranspiration (Ret) val- ue and therefore it works successfully in the en- vironment character- ized by a high tem- perature and during the operations which require intensive and long-term physical effort – they ensure the highest level of durable water- proofness and the highest level of breathability from which GORE-TEX® membranes are well known. It, certain- ly, requires also applying an appropriate design and, for instance decreasing an amount of the foam used in the upper and avoiding other elements which may disturb an air circulation. The Hohenstein Comfort Rating System classifies the Extended Comfort GORE-TEX® laminate as "highly breathable" - the highest Ret of the laminates is < 810 [m2 Pa/W ] according to ISO 11092. High temperatures? The desert boots with GORE-TEX? Does it work? Up till now, we have been used that desert boots are designed so that they warranty the best venti- lation and transportation of the collected heat. And that is just an objective of our tests, whereas a subject of the "tortures" will be the desert boots designed for the vari- ous operational activities in the environmental conditions which are characterized by a high temperature, where the comfort of the desert line is safeguarded by GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort technology, which have been used while design- ing the footwear compatible with the technical requirements for GORE-TEX® Desert Boots featuring a functional membrane. All for one, one for all Three kinds of the footwear – three dif- ferent scenarios of intended use – three teams of users. The tactical, heavy duty and "patrol" boots featuring www.fragoutmag.com
