station is durable polymer case and has the size of a pack of cigarettes – inside, there is a compartment for three AAAs to charge TEP-100s, two holders with metal connectors to attach the plugs for the time of charging or storage, the button for starting the procedure of checking the battery status, and two LEDs that indicate the battery status. Individual states are described in the instruction located under the lid but generally all can be described as follows: red light – bad, yellow – charging, green – charged. On the outside of the docking station, there is an additional micro-USB port to charge the without using AAAs – from a mobile phone charger, a PC, or a power bank. OPERATION The operation of 3M PELTOR TEP is child's play – first, you need to charge the batteries in the buds, which takes about 90 minutes. After you choose the correct ear tips (they should not be too loose but you should also not choose too large ones, because they will be uncomfortable), before putting the earplugs in ears, is is good to switch them on by holding the control button for two seconds – it will be much more convenient that trying to press the small button when the earplug is already in your ear. After switching on, there's a short confirmation "beep". Volume up or down are signaled with a short beeping sound (with intensity increasing when are setting the volume up). After putting the earplugs in our ears, it is more convenient to adjust the volume (low or high) than to switch the device on because you need to press the control button for a very short period (shorter than one second). IN USE I have been using 3M PELTOR TEP-100 for a couple of months now – on that time, I stopped using classic headbands and rail-mounnted headsets. I needed some time to get used to the earplugs, but after I chose the right size of the tips, I did not feel any pressure on the ear canal. Due to its design, TEP- 100 may be seamlessly worn with any headgear – including old generation helmets with deep shells, in case of which the only possibility of hearing protection was application of regular earplugs or expensive in-ear communication headsets (only recently there have been available sets for active protection of hearing with earplugs at the price level that will not make you die of heart attack – check out Silynx Clarus Pro in FRAG OUT! #11). If you put them correctly in the ear channel, they won't fall out when running or during dynamic moves. But, just in case, it is better to tie with the cord they came with. www.fragoutmag.com
