quickly loses its sharpness and requires frequent sharpening. A cut aggression also leaves a lot to be desired. The blade has a shape similar to a triangle, it is rather wide at the basis (approx. 4 mm/0.15") and rapidly narrows towards the tip. The grind reaches more or less to a half of the blade, but from the spine side is led false blade. Considering its intended use you may conclude that such a solution is aimed at ensuring effectiveness of the pushes while at the same time retaining a possibility to throw a deep cut. Nevertheless, this what is the most noticeable is improperly high cutting edge (3 mm/0.11"). I have had at my disposal the serrated version so it is one-sided. Personally, I am not convinced at all if it comes to an idea of adding serrations in the knives of this kind, since they take almost a half of blade in this quite short knife. I suspect that it has been CRKT idea to improve the utility of the knife and make it more civilian friendly. It caused loosing cut smoothness, but it allows for longer use without a necessity of continuous sharpening. Even though a small corrugation at the cutting edge of the blade has turn out to be a good solution – it gives a certain support for a thumb and excludes any slippages. HANDLE The handle is the most interesting element of the CRKT Companion. The knife is a 3 mm (0.11") thick full-tang with very thin Zytel liners with a slightly aggressive texture accurately fitted and screwed with six torx screws. As for the fixed knife, even the small one, it is a uniquely flat design. I think that it would not be saying too much if I determine that a paracord would take more space that two profiled pieces of plastic we have here. There is an additional narrowing in the liners at the height of a small finger. Taking into account that in this place the grip is the strongest, such a solutions seems to be justified by all means. An incredible ergonomics is a not inconsiderable surprise, the knife literally adheres to the hand. A very well adjusted width recompenses shortcomings in its thickness, due to that nothing gets in the hand. The knife can be operated comfortably in each grip, only in the revers I have felt a little discomfort. However, the advantages of the design disclose fully first and foremost in the saber grip. The doubled dace, deep undercut for a forefinger, narrowing at the end of the liners and effective corrugations for a thumb – all these elements are of a great importance for eliminating the greatest disadvantage of this grip, which consists in the relative easiness of dismantling. Thanks to such solutions the CRKT Companion is the knife, which is perfectly led, and simultaneously it is harder to knock it out than in the case of the other fighter knives. SHEATHS As I have already mentioned, CRKT Companion comes with two Zytel sheaths. One of them has a classic belt loop and the latter has holes that enable to attaching in any position with 550 cord. Second sheath could also been worn as a neck www.fragoutmag.com
