more. As one should be able to easily imagine, the short barrel will also result in a significant loss of bullet energy. While a .223/5.56 from a standard barrel travels with almost 1000 m/s, out of the less than 10" barrel, the muzzle velocity is reduced to a little more than 600 m/s. No need to be a mathematical genius in order to find out what this means for penetration and stopping power. So the proven conclusion that assault rifles with a barrel length of less than 10"/25 cm left some very thoughtful listeners. THE EXHIBITION The brands, that B&T distribute in Switzerland, are basically the who-is-who concerning equipment and accessories when it comes to law enforcement/ military gear. So many of the about 700 visitors used the occasion to talk to the present manufacturers' representa- tives in order to give them feedback on existing products and ideas for future products. Besides the weapons of B&T and HK, which could be test fired on the range during the event, also other products could be tested. This was particularly interesting with the different shown optics. As thermal optics are a valuable tool for many police and military operations, in order to find a missing person in the dark, to locate a burglar hiding in the bushed outside a house he broke in or the spot enemy forces in the dark, the booth of the different ex- hibitors in this category were very well attended. Testing the various devices from VHF, Lahoux Optics or Vectronix, one was even able to spot a deer resting in the brushwood near the shooting range with- out being disturbed by the noise. www.fragoutmag.com
