Olight S30R Baton IIIWhat can you write about the Olight S30R III? Briefly, it is a cool flashlight. Admittedly, I do not carry it as the EDC item, because for this purpose I use an- other Olight flashlight, about which I will write in the next edition of the Frag Out!, but I take it for the different kinds of the trips. Then I put the S30R III in the pocket of my trousers, which was intended for carrying a pistol magazine, as for instance in the w Claw Gear, Helikon UTPs or similar. It fits perfectly in terms of its size, and the strong clip makes you not worried about its safety. Additionally, it is assembled slightly lower than in the S10R, therefore it is easier to take out the flashlight from pocket. If I have a magazine in pocket, I put the flashlight to the Husar Cubby waist bag or pack, the most frequently into the pocket on the flap in order to ensure an easy ac- cess to it. I used it a few times during the Low Light Shooting class with the IKEM and it copes, although the switch located on the side is less convenient than one on the tail cap. It can be handled, but it is not the upper level of comfort. For the other uses – problem-free. Like the Peter, I do not attach the lanyard, either – the clip and magnet are suffi- cient. Unfortunately, the Olight S30R III is too big to be mounted on the cap. Although it is possible, it is not comfortable. The magnet is strong and reliably maintains the flashlight. There is no fear that it will fall away by itself. Operating is easy and the modes well selected although the Turbo mode is an absolute overkill. I switched it on a few times, but it is hard to find any use for it – maybe in any dramatic situation? The most often I use the Moonlight and Weak modes, which ensure an identification of the target in the distance of a few dozens of meters (maximal- ly within the 70-80 meters range), although the flashlight illuminates much further. Certainly, for the distance declared by the manufacturer, but I cannot perceive any deeper sense in it since who illuminates with this kind of the flashlight for al- most 200 meters and for what reason? Charging is easy – regrettably, I do not know either, how long lasts the entire cycle, as I have never seen the red light under the switch, either (supposedly it is...). The charging dock is cool – small, with the anti-slip pad and additional USB port. Moreover, the connectors of the flashlight and charging base are not particularly sensitive to dirt and they charge without any issues, even with the flashlight straight from the "field". A pos- sibility to replace the rechargeable battery with two CR123A is a very good solution – I have al- ways a few of them on me so I do not need to be afraid that it runs out, and I am going to use the power bank for the other devices. I just take out the rechargeable and put in two 123's (in the VLTOR stock you can fit probably eight) and the game is up. Olight S30R III illumination is cool, al- though it is rather of cold. As for me, a distribution of the light beam is just fine. www.fragoutmag.com
