August 2002 and the production ended with the con- tract SPO100-05-M4137 of 19 February 2005. 1 February 2005 is the date of standardization of Foliage Green 504 bands, which are still in production and used with ACH helmets. The most current contract is SPE1C1-15-D-B001 (14 August 2017). CHEMICAL PROTECTIVE COVER Cover, Helmet, Chemical Protective NSN 8415- 01-111-9028, was standardized on 23 April 1981. It is made of nylon covered with OD177 butyl rubberand there it is one size fits all. The same material is used in the production of hoods for NBC masks. The cover has an elastic drawstring sewn-in around its edge. It is put on the helmet in the event of a threat of WMD. The covers have been produced in an unchanged form and used with newer type of helmets. The last concluded contract is SPE1C1-16-D-N004 of 29 August 2017, with the expected delivery date on 30 April 2018. OTHER ACCESSORIES PASGT helmets could also be used a riot face mask or visor (NSN 4240-01-18206406) standardized on 26 June 1984. It was compatible both with M1 and PASGT helmets and produced until 2012. The helmets were also used with assembly systems for various night vision devices. However, those always were the element of the night vision device kit itself rather than an ele- ment of the PASGT. SERVICE The first PASGT helmets were given to the US Army Rapid Deployment Forces and the USMC. New hel- mets were used for the first time during the invasion of Grenada in 1983. They were issued on a large scale no sooner than in 1985 and in the case of most units the replacement process ended in 1989. In spite of that, in 1991 in the Persian Gulf, a part of the rear units, especially among USAF, were still issued with old M1s, which were replaced in country. Since 1998, new sus- pension had been available as spare parts, because helmets had some problems with stability. The helmet would often slide down on the soldier's eyes. There PASGT helmet cover. Left to right: Woodland, 6-Color Daytime Desert, arctic white, and 3-Color Daytime Desert. www.fragoutmag.com
