The Fort Worth plant will soon become a main assembly center for the F-35 Lighting II fighters which soon will enter the full-scale production. This requires the same workspace and personnel, which was involved in the manufacturing of F-16's. According to announcement, the transition will take approx. two years and Lockheed Martin plans to exploit this time to receive foreign contracts. First customer will be Bahrain, but sales were offered to Croatia and Bulgaria. Also, India, Romania, Poland, Columbia, Pakistan and Mexico are discussing potential procurement of F-35's. On 8th September 2017, US Department of State announced approval for two export sales of Lockheed Martin F-16V Fighting Falcon fighters and upgrade kits to Bahrain. As part of the first, the 19 fighters plus three F-110- GE-129 engines, AN/APG-83 radar stations, MMC computer and EGNS/LN260EGI will be delivered.
