that will not follow any patterns and not follow any know path in terms of build. Another step of company development was moving to Prague (2017) and joining the designer Daniel Selichar and Ondriej Podel team, Ondriej in the past was marketing director in CZ. Laugo Arms Alien is 9 mm Parabellum caliber and it has gas-delayed blowback locking system. Sound familiar? Yes, similar solution was used in H&K P7 pistols designed in 1970s, but the location of piston and recoil spring used in Alien differs from the P7. In HK the piston was placed under the barrel and recoil spring around it and in Alien it is placed above low- axis barrel and it is connected by the bar with recoil spring with rod inside set. That design clears out the major fault of P7 and that is high temperature raise in the area of frame and trigger guard. Fault that makes firing almost impossible, although there were attempts to eliminate it with polymer insert at the top of the trigger guard. Steel barrel is fixed and it is not moving while firing. What's more its axis is situated very low, almost at the line of the shooters wrist what leads to great recoil and muzzle raise control. Laugo Arms states that Alien is handgun with lowest placed barrel axis in the world and that might be true cause even in revolvers with very low placed barrel (for example Mateba) it is actually higher – in the new pistol it is in the line of straight index finger of the firing hand. Another interesting solution is interchangeable slide top rails that allows the user to quickly change between iron sights and optoelectronic sight, what makes possible to run the same gun in different IPSC categories. According to the Laugo reps, after setting you sights with each rail there is no need to re-zero you sights after changing the rails back and forth. What is important, rails stay fixed while firing so recoil forces does not affect directly mounted sight and that expands its lifetime. It is not common knowledge, but almost none of the existing MRDS was not meant to be mounted directly on a handgun. They are supposed to be attached on special adapters that reduces part of that recoil, but who the hell want to use mount that increases height of sight itself? Currently for the Alien there are provided three rails: with mechanical rear sight and fiber optic front sight, with MIL-STD-1913 rail and one with base plate for MRDS. Except exchangeable top rails there is possibility to attach the compensator. Alien has patented single action trigger and internal hammer (attached to upper rail) with reverse construction – similar solution was used in case of KRISS Vector SMG. How it affects the shooter? Handgun behaves as it was striker-fired gun but works much www.fragoutmag.com
