Enhanced TLBV pockets held same number of magazines. Top external pockets held two magazines. New slanted magazine pockets were reinforced on the sides. The main difference 2nd generation of TLBV fabric. Cordura was mesh. Vest, Grenade Carrier (40 mm) NSN: 8415-01-317-1622 MIL-V-44362 – 9 Mar 1989 The grenadier vest has same design as first VTLB. The front panels are made from Woodland Cordura fabric but the magazine and frag pockets were replaced with total 14 40 mm HE grenades pockets and 4 longer 40 mm pyrotechnic rounds in top row. Just below the pyrotechnic rounds pocket there is one horizontal and one vertical HE pocket. The bottom row features 5 HE pockets. Each pocket is closed with 1.5" webbing strap with snap. First contract (SPO100-95-C-4025) was awarded 1 March 1995. Last one was awarded 25 July 2006 (SPO100-06-D-4015). During production there were no changes in the design. Field Pack Large with Integral Frame NSN: 8465-01-286-5356 MIL-F-44324 - 1 Feb 1988, MIL-F-44324A – 15 Apr 1988 FPLIF base fabric used for was 8 oz. Cordura fabric with DWR finish and PU coating. Main Pack (35x20x80 cm) is divided into two compartments. Top (approx. 50 cm deep) was designed to carry most of the equipment. The bottom part was designed to carry a complete sleeping bag system. Compartments are divided with two internal flaps from fabric. Flaps are connected with 550 cord with cord-lock. Both compartments can be joined if required. Looking from the outside, the pack can be divided in two parts. Top is approx. 60 cm long and shorter bottom one which is reinforced with second layer of Cordura. The fabric is heavier-weight and has OD color. The bottom compartment is accessible with two-way zipper on three edges. Inside main compartment there is a PRC-25/7 pocket. To use the radio, on the back wall of the compartment, near the top-lid seams, there are slots for antenna routing, covered with rectangular flaps. The main compartment is closed on top with a flap from two layers of Cordura fabric creating hook & loop closed flat map pocket. Flap is fixed and has two buckles for closure.
