There were also seven cases of buttstock damage ranging from falling out QD sockets, twisting off the cheek riser spring up to break- ing the stock. As long as twisting the spring or falling out the socket is clearly fault of the weapon than breaking the stock by soldier who will fall down with all his equipment is just an accident and might happen some- times. Question is – does stock can be redesigned to minimize the risk of breaking off or whether that case is so rare that there is no need to focus on that problem. Luckily GROT is mod- ular rifle so new stock will not require changes in the weapon. Stock removal is a matter of few seconds so in case of introducing new design, replace- ment can be done on the spot. From the moment when photos of MSBS bolt carrier group were released to the public, there were information's that is has „weld- ed bolt" (but really it concerned bolt carrier) and that MSBS's bolt cracks. No, MSBS/GROT bolt does not crack, yet there were reported four cases of damaged breech bore and all four were replaced. The ru- mors were most probably caused by broken bolt lugs or extractors or ejector (I do not have specific infor- mation). There were two bolt carri- ers replaced (with cracks found) as a result of manufacturers fault. Grots bolt carrier is quite solid piece of steel and there is nothing to crack, but at the top part there is welded "techno- logical" plug and its weld can actually crack if it was not precisely applied. Probably this was the reason for "bolt carrier crack" rumor. To make it little bit funnier, bolt carrier without that welded plug still will be working. Among other reported issues there were also cracked upper receiver (or lower – record is not specific enough, I would bet on the cracked polymer, and that is lower re- ceiver) and few cases of problem with bayonet lug (less than five). There are some complains on the poor coating on steel parts which are prone to corrosion. There are not so many parts which the „red- head bi**h" can take care off: barrel, bolt carrier and screws (plus some internals). Meanwhile after reading internet wisdom it might look like that GROT after one training in the field looks like old PPSh-41 dig up under the Stalingrad. My GROT went one time through cloudburst on the shooting range where roof start to leak what resulted ankle-deep pool. Weapon was taken by my friend to be shown on local competition next day. He just wiped it off with a cloth and put it in a safe. Rifle was cleaned three weeks later and the only thing that can clas- sified as "corrosion" was little change of colors of the few screws heads. On the other hand though, few years ago after riding at the back of the truck in the rain with my (brand www.fragoutmag.com
