one reason to neglect the maintenance or use just about anything for that pur- pose. Coating, whatever it might be, will degrade during use and nobody can do anything, about it. In case of aluminum alloys, it will only affect visual aspect of the gun but In terms of steel parts if the maintenance will be neglected (im- proper maintenance) will result in rust. I think that together will increasing level of skill in terms of weapons main- tenance in TDF, problem with "rusty Grots" will fade away. Of course, it can be accelerated with improved coating and use better cleaning agents Generally, GROT rifles received positive feedback mostly for ergo- nomics, accuracy and full ambidex- trous design. There were no mal- functions when firing live ammunition, only with blanks... Soldiers are learning much faster how to shoot that with Beryl rifle and qualification shooting are done also better. What's interesting – the safety/fire selector is somehow not criticized. Most of the time it's not in graces of the people who used AR-15 rifles. Those who start to learn, or they had AK in the past, the switch is not a problem. Recently, in latest bull-pup version of MSBS/GROT t used there is selector with 135 deg throw. Single fire is 90 deg and full auto is 135 deg. Maybe this is another idea (for me less comfortable)? Without a doubt, attention to clean- ing and maintenance procedure should be stressed during the training pro- cess. It's no longer just running and gunning. Times of wiping old, used to the limits AK, with "some sort of" oil and considering case done and closed are gone. TDF shooting instructors should tell about how important it is for weapon working properly to be well maintained. Many of them are compe- tition shooters and I bet every one of them have their beloved little toys they care a lot! new at that time) Beretta 92FS in full holster, it was covered by red coating on the exposed part of the barrel… What it proves? It proves quality of up maintenace. Twenty years ago, I cleaned my weapon with everything that was available, now I use set of „Gucci cosmetics" for the weapons. Effects are noticeable – starting from easier cleaning through better lubrication ending on better pres- ervations. Probably it is the same thing with Grots and one cleaning product to everything and that's it. Add to this equation fact, that most of GROT users does not own private firearm so they do not know exactly how to maintain and clan it, we have full package… Of course, one call yell that: "Mister, old AK does not require any care at all" but would be hard to compare modern rifle with. Sure thing, weapon for the military should be "idiot-proof" and resists extreme conditions but this does not give any- FIREARMS
