Inside main compartment there are straps with buckles. They are designed to keep the pack together when completely flat. Unfortunately, straps restrict access to the bottom of main compartment and make life harder when you are going to pack laptop. Well, I know the BOB wasn't designed primarily with laptops in mind, but remember that hammer was invented for bone crushing and not hammering nails. Again, choose one or other. The lower pocket is larger and is pro- tected with Cordura fabric layer. It has zippered access and main zip is flapped.
