I n the FRAG OUT! Magazine #26 we have presented you with a brief tech- nical description of the latest Carinthia Technical Light Garment (TLG) light- weight insulated hoodie jacket. After al- most a year of use we are able to provide you complete feedback. MAT! I 've been using my Carinthia TLG for more than a year now. It has seen some serious use but there are almost no signs of wear on it. Initially, as a fanboy of some Canadian dead bird brand (even their tactical line up is definitely overpriced IMHO) I wasn't con- vinced to TLG so I had this feeling about trad- ing my favorite loft for something else and maybe worse. Long story short, I was posi- tively surprised. The TLG is very thin and lightweight (even when compared to my Atom LT) but it meets all the requirements for a lightweight insula- tion layer. It might be worn over t-shirt or as a mid-layer when combined with hardshell, softshell, windshirt or even loft/down jacket (for extreme temps). It is warm and cozy even when wet. When wet, it dries pretty quickly, and it still keeps you warm. I would say that breathability and perfor- mance is on par with other loft jackets, the differences are in the design and cut. The TLG definitely has better cuffs. They provide a great seal but still allows you to see the time on your watch. Also, the hood seems to have a better fit over the head. The sizing is European, I wear EU Large. It has an alpine cut, relatively form fitting without excessive material. It does not restrict any movements. Initially I assumed it is going to be more "tactical use"/"shooting range" use layer, but I've decided to use it every day, like bike riding (as a mid-layer as it is not wind re- sistant at all). Due to the smart design, light- weight and compact size, I often use it as a part of my casual Friday outfit. Solid Black is definitely low-profile, neutral and not tactical at all. I work in a corporate office where fancy suits are in the past, so I can wear TLG with my smart casual shirt as well. TLG was an unexpected positive surprise for the deadbird fan. Carinthia TLG quickly became one of my favorites insulate layers. "Must have" or "highly recommended" at least. Pick one! SHASH C arinthia Technical Light Garment aka TLG is this particular jacket (or mid-lay- er, whatever you call it) which I really missed in all past Carinthia catalogs. I had some insulation hoodies from other compa- nies (and no, I am not going to compare it with TLG because I see no reason for it) but not Carinthia one. Well, they had and still have that fancy ISG 2.0 hybrid jacket, a cross- breed between softshell hoodie and low-loft jacket, but it was still not a fully-fledged in- sulation. There was a G-Loft Ultra Shirt, thin and lightweight insulation jacket but com- pletely hoodless and my main complaint in its review was a lack of hood. Why do I hate that? You appreciate the hood when it rains or snows or blows or you just want to take a nap in the car or on the trail and isolate your- self from the outer world. But here comes the TLG! The insulated hood- ie from Carinthia. Of course, in case of insula- tion mid-layer the main purpose of the hood is "heating" of your head and to protect it against the wind as the fabric and insulation CLOTHING
