the infantry is carrying far more equipment these
days, that also takes up some space in the vehicles.
Vests, ballistic protection gear, backpacks, extra el-
ements of the kit, far more ammunition - all of these
have become heavier and bulkier. As a result of the
above, the vehicle designed to carry 8 troops could,
on deployments, carry up to 6 equipped soldiers.
This trend has been noticed by all of the leading
manufacturers of armoured vehicles, globally. Am-
phibious capabilities were traded for the weight
(above 30 tonnes) and 360-degree STANAG 4596A/B
Level IV protection.
Patria was taking steps in a similar direction. The
first symptom of change came in the form of the
Badger (South Africa) and Pansarterrängbil 360
(Sweden), and the Havoc (USMC) platform designs.
The conclusions reached during the development of
the aforesaid designs have led to the inception of
the AMV-XP. The XP stood for eXtra Payload, eXtra
Performance, and eXtra Protection. So, what's the
