firm press unleashes the full power. The light can operate in a momen- tary-on mode (press and hold) or a constant-on mode (a quick tap and release). To keep the battery top- ped up, Olight included a compact charger with a magnetic connector. It promises a full charge in under 5 hours as long as you're using a power source that can deliver 5A. If your power source is a bit less beefy, expect the charging time to be a little longer. You also have the option to control the Odin using a MIL-STD-1913 mo- unted remote switch. Interestingly, it simply presses on, relying on the springiness of the material to hold it securely. It connects to the Odin via a cable with a magnetic connec- tor, which attaches to the rear of the light. This magnetic connector has also been redesigned. The pressure switch itself has seen a significant upgrade too. It's now a bit longer and features two buttons. The larger one gives you instant ac- cess to High mode, while the smal- ler one activates Low mode. Final- ly! One of the common gripes with the previous version was that an accidental tug on the cable could easily detach the connector. Olight has clearly listened, because the connector now boasts an extra loc- king mechanism. After sliding the connector ring forward, you simply give it a gentle clockwise twist until you feel a click. This clever design prevents accidental disconnection if the cable gets pulled. To detach it, you first twist the ring counterc- lockwise before pulling it free. This is a huge plus and addresses one of the main frustrations with the legacy light. minutes. Switch to Low mode, and you'll get a steady 300 lumens that will last you a solid 310 minutes. In terms of reach, the High mode punches out a beam with a range of up to 250 meters. In Low mode, you're looking at 3050 candela and a still-useful 110-meter reach. Com- paring this to the legacy Odin, you'll notice the performance figures are down by about 20%, which makes perfect sense given the switch to a slightly smaller battery and the option for CR 123As. At the tail end of the Odin, you'll find a screw-on battery compart- ment cap, which cleverly integra- tes a push-button switch that also doubles as a magnetic charging port. If you're using this tail switch to control the light, a soft press gives you the low setting, while a The flashlight is available in black or coyote brown. www.fragoutmag.com
