L I G H T T r A N S m I S S I O N Light transmission in Spitfire was something that sur- prised me the most. It was good and clear in almost every condition. I shoot on sunny, cloudy and rainy days, after the dusk and during the night, with light on the target and only backlighted targets. Every time it was clear and decent. Having the comparison to long range scopes and ACOG TA31RCO 4x32 that I was using through last year on the very same rifle, I can honestly say that this sight in its price range has no strong competition and for sure it is worth its price. Generally in the "middle expensive" type of sights we can observe that from few years quality of lenses is getting better – companies like Vortex, Bushnell or Burris chase top-notch manufactures of rifle sights reducing the distance at the same time keeping rea- sonable price. rETIcLE EBR-556B Enhanced Battle Reticle is fantastic crosshair in so called Horseshoe style, scaled for 55 grains bullet and 16 inch barrel. That minimalist reticle consists of "horseshoe" and four transverse bars of different length and has everything what reticle designated for shooting up to about 500 meters should have. With sight zeroed at 100 meters and .223 bullet flight path, we can shoot from 50 to 200 meters practically without any adjust- ments. For longer distances correction is set by the bars on 300, 400 and 500 meters – differences on the lengths are single meters and 8-20 centimeters of bullet drop for particular ranges. Aiming at steel plate, silhouette or tar- get figures those differences can be omitted. EBR-556B is designed for quick distance assessment. Aiming by the reticle the width of full-grown man (19 inches – ap- prox. 45 centimeters) we are able to determine whether target is at 300, 400 or 500 meters. BAckLIGHT When shooting at night or low visibility, backlight might become handy and Vortex Spitfire 3x Prism got it in two colors and 5 levels of brightness. Levels 1-4 works very well, but at level 5 reticle glows too much what makes www.fragoutmag.com
