tem, and its functional profile, the UAV makes it possible to launch a re- connaissance sortie in 120 seconds from the moment when the base station is turned on. The system can take off and land in any terrain, regar- dless of whether the GPS signal is present or not. The night variant features both an electro-optical camera, and a ther- mal imaging sensor. This enables the user to deploy the UAV without any limitations resulting from the lighting deficit in the given area. The camera imagery is transmit- ted to the screen in real-time. The screen allows the user to adjust sa- turation and contrast, depending on the time of day when the system is deployed. The system also allows for previewing of the high-resolution imagery as the UAV is flying. The images include data on coordination, altitude above sea level, distance, and bearing, in relation to the base station. Teledyne FLIR Black Hornet 3 can rotate around its vertical axis, allowing the user to obtain a compre- hensive operational picture. Given its size, the Black Hornet 3 is very stealthy, and almost undistin- guishable when placed against the sky. The propulsion system makes it possible to diminish the drone's aco- ustic signature and conceal it in the background noise. The Black Hor- net 3 features a set of batteries that can be simply replaced in field con- ditions. The system enables the user to carry out 4-5 sorties on one doc- king station charge, without a need to charge the station with the use of an external power supply. When BB- 2590 radio batteries used by the ope- rators are employed as an alternative source of power for the base station, the base station can remain active, continuously, for 8 hours. The navigation system adjusts the flight trajectory automatically, main- taining the hover position defined by the operator automatically. The sys- tem's autopilot unit makes it possible to use the flight envelope to the ful- lest, also taking wind gusts into the equation. www.fragoutmag.com www.fragoutmag.com
