On 21st November 2016, the PIAP received an official information from the Polish Armed Forces Armament Inspectorate (military institution responsible for pro- curement of weapon systems) which confirmed a positive outcome of the tests of the Light Reconnaissance Robot – Engineering Robot 1507, more commonly known under code name BALSA. Tests confirmed a finalization of one of the stag- es of the contract awarded on 18th May 2016 by Armament Inspectorate to PIAP. The contract was signed for delivery of 53 engineering robots to support EOD/IED operations under the code name BALSA - Light Reconnaissance Robot (LRR). Tests of the modified PIAP Fenix robot, which was selected as a base for the BALSA (more about PIAP Fenix in FRAG OUT! #12) had been conducted until an end of August 2016, according to a schedule and their results had confirmed meeting the Initial Tactical and Technical Requirements set by military. The robot had been also tested with regard to a compliance with the following standards: NO-06-A103:2005, NO- 06-A105:2005, NO-06-A107:2005, NO-06-A200:2012, NO-06-A500:2005, PN:EN-60529:2003. A next stage of the contract is a delivery of the first unit for the military even before an end of 2016. The next batches of the BALSA robots will be delivered by the end of June 2017 and in 2018. www.fragoutmag.com
