Malfunctions fixing should be trained under the eye of instructor and start off with good quality metal training rounds (plas- tic ones false the reality and allow you to do things that you cannot do with the real round). Generating jams for the purpose of the train- ing, usually we are able to create much more complicated than these, that happen to us in real life. Procedure is always the same – unload the weapon completely, and load it again. Remember: SUMMARY Knowledge and skill never too much, so it is good to know potential malfunctions, which can occur during firing AR's. It is worth from time to time to conduct training and refresh the procedures of clearing those jams, because – as we know skill unused – vanish. You should remember that modern AR-15's are not the same weapon as thirty years ago. Metal working technology goes forward, and the years of ex- perience allow to refine the project. Pay attention to the aspect that I am going to call, that can let to avoid mentioned malfunctions and also other problems: - use quality weapon - it may seems obvious, but some people are won- dering, why one rifle costs $500, and another one $2000. It is not just the matter of marketing BS and the brand on the receivers but could be re- search, development work and also quality of materials and careness for details; - use quality magazines - as I wrote before, one cause of malfunctions (most difficult ones) is broken magazine, that why it is worthy to buy good quality magazine and from time to time look closely at it, especially at feeding lips area. This is not unbreakable product and it gets worn out (like everything) – and when it comes to that, don't bother to save, just buy new one; - don't forget to clean and lubricate - if the weapon is working completely dry or the amount of residues is that big it is hard to reload, don't wonder that the weapon is going to have malfunctions. Of course, do not overdo it, I am not perfect example of Mr. Clean, and rifles are working a lot, but the bit of good quality lube going to ease work (I am going to signify that weap- on cleaning is a very good time for close inspection and checking parts inside); - use proven quality ammunition - everybody want to shoot as much as he can, but this imply the costs. If I spend $1000 for rifle and another $2500 for ac- cessories, then I'm trying to save wherever I can and this is understandable, but it is worthy to use proven, ammunition. If I'm buying cheaper ammunition, I have to bear the consequences. On my example - in my company, we are using following brands for training weap- ons: Primary Weapons Systems, Bravo Company Manufacturing (BCM) and Daniel De- fense. Malfunctions because of weapon practically don't exist; we use Magpul magazines and shoot mostly Barnaul ammunition, which price to quality ratio is fair. Maybe we should clean the weapons little more often but who likes cleaning rather than shooting. GO, Go, Go! TRAINING
