might be the size of the device, but when you consider the fact that it is, at the same time, a descent and ascent device that does all the physical work for the operator, such disadvantages become rather a minor issue. Operation of Atlas Devices APA-5 ascender is quite simple, but – as in the case of all elements of climbing equipment – the user must spend some time and ef- fort to get to know all the details. The device is con- trolled with a two-stage trigger that looks like the one you find in a driller or a joystick. The trigger is operated with one hand, the second hand remains always free. The LCD dis- play placed on a durable aluminum enclosure that is resistant to damage and sea water was cov- ered with a panel that al- lows operations with night vision devices.
