Despite temperatures of 30°C, my feet did not sweat excessively. Of course, socks were wet, but only the toes that are in the part covered by a rubber rim, so sweating is something obvious in that case. The boots provided good grip on hard and rocky trails, as well as on regular "ground" ones. Even if they were wet and slippery. Of course, bearing in mind the materials used for the upper, the inside of those boots was noticeably warmer than in case of other boots. However, "notice- ably" does not mean I felt discomfort. It was warmth to a reasonable extent. Marching did not make any problems, there were no abrasions or corns – one has to remember to lace the boots properly. The lacing system is more efficient thanks to a third pair of grom- mets with clamps. We pull laces together, block them with clamps and the boot gets really steady. We pull the rest of the lacing system and the boot will cling to our ankle well, securing it against injuries. After about 60 km, my feet and ankles were still intact. I think that the boots deserved a A-notice. They even dealt with wading through an ankle-deep stream; the inside of the boots was still dry. Although I tend to have some destructive tendencies, I did not dare to walk with those boots into a river when we were filming an ad for a certain store. Of course, I had to express my destructive nature by testing those boots in their totally unfamiliar habitat, that is in a city. The concrete jungle is not a natural habitat for that mod- el and you feel that immediately. The sole is stiff on asphalt or concrete. It affects the comfort of usage, which is "highly mediocre". It is not tragical, but could have been better. You can feel that those are boots for outdoor activities rather that for urban areas. Some few more walks only proved my doubts, so I locked those boots in my closet and I am using them only for outdoor trips, mainly in the mountains, or for the shooting range in autumn and winter. And those are the purposes the boots are perfect for. In short summary: Gore-Tex Extended Comfort did its job. It is my subjective opinion. However, I have the feeling that they transpire moisture well. Socks are dry, feet feel less uncomfortable after longer walks than in the case of other footwear. Boots as such are very good. They are stiff enough for the trail, yet the user does not feel as if wearing an "ankle stiffener". Everything is to a reasonable extent. The rubber rim on the tip of the boot protected well against stones and hits. So far, there are no signs of wear of adhesion. The lacing system a'la SpeedLace significantly short- ens the time required to lace the boots. I definitely recommend those boots for wandering in the moun- tains. They are light, comfortable, and made from Gore-Tex. What more can you possibly need? www.fragoutmag.com
